Description
Circa 1850-60 rosewood Rococo Revival ottoman bench, with birch secondary wood, analyzed profssionally. Measuring 33+1/2" x 33+1/2" and 21" tall at top of cushion. Attributed to Alexander Roux, New York City cabinetmaker, who worked in Manhattan between 1836-1881. His cabinet shop also produced gothic style and Victorian pieces. Examples of his work are found at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. See pages 287-89 in the American Cabinetmakers book b y William C. Ketchum. Beautiful C-scroll carving having Chinese influence, four rosettes carved at center of openwork on all sides. A beautiful, rare example. Please call 973.948.3968 with questions.
