Each example is marked with the RUPPEL factory marks.Condition: Excellent with no damages such as dents or splits to the metal; just some instances of minor loss to the enamel in places. Please see photos.Size: The largest stands at approximately 13 cms high and 21 cm wide. The other two are slightly smaller. References: See Sotheby's, Bauhaus and other important 20th century Avant-garde Design, 1 November 1996, Lot 76. Estimate (for a single napkin holder) £400-600.Also Die Metallwerkstatt am Bauhaus (The Bauhaus Metal Workshop), Bauhaus Archiv, Berlin, 1992, Plate 116. At the time of writing I have a copies of both of these hard-to-find books available in a separate listings. Please see my other items, my eBay store or ask if you cannot find them. As a member of the metalwork department at the Staatliches Bauhaus in Weimar, Marianne Brandt (1893-1983) worked in close collaboration with other modernist luminaries such as Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, Christian Dell, Hin Bredendieck and Hans Przyrembel. She was appointed assistant director of the workshop by Walter Gropius when the Bauhaus moved to Dessau in 1928. Although a painter and sculptor as well as a metalwork designer, she is probably best known for the pioneering functionalist metalwork designs she produced at the Bauhaus and for the lighting manufacturer Kandem (Korting & Mathiesen) and the Metallwarenfabrik (metalware factory) Ruppelwerk, Gotha, of which this is a famous example. Her position as a prominent figure in the history of twentieth century design is well established. © Text and photographs by room_606. UK buyers only may also pay by cheque or postal order. If it's a cheque, please allow 7 to 10 days for it to clear. Payment is required within 7 days.Non-paymentAll non-paying bidders are, without exception, reported to eBay. This is not for the sake of being vindictive, but because eBay charges retrospective fees calculated on the actual sale price of items and this money needs to be retrieved. Believe me it is becoming increasingly difficult to make ends meet on here as it is! Thank you for your understanding. Please refer to eBay's policy on non-payment for more information, including its ramifications for the bidder. If you have any doubts, please do ask before bidding.Condition of itemsPlease note that, unless clearly stated otherwise, my listings are for vintage/antique objects and therefore, by definition, are not going to be in the same condition you would expect from a brand new item. Please be assured that I always endeavour to offer the most accurate description possible of the item's condition and take multiple illustrative photographs. Vintage electrical itemsUnless explicitly stated otherwise in the description, vintage electrical items are always sold in their original condition so should always be safety checked by a qualified electrician (in the country of intended use) before use. ReturnsReturns may be made, if reported within 7 days and by prior arrangement only, if a mistake has been made in the listing and the item is not as described, but for no other reason. Unfortunately simple buyer's remorse cannot qualify and the cost of return postage is not included in any refund. Thanks very much for taking the time to read this. If there is anything I haven't covered please don't hesitate to contact me.
