Description
Historic Art Deco Brass Serenity Palm Wall Sconces “Elegant lamps from historic Los Angeles movie estate” In 1929 renowned Los Angeles architect Paul Williams completed construction on a landmark Pasadena, California mansion for thoroughbred racehorse owner Jack Pease Atkin. The 16,000 square foot English Baronial Estate was located at 160 So. San Rafael Ave. As the depression worsened, Mr. Atkin thought of an innovative way to use his home to help others. He began leasing the home to movie studios for films, using those profits to fund a Los Angeles soup kitchen. Over the years the estate has been seen in movies such as Topper, Being There, Rocky V, 3 Men & A Little Lady, Clue, Hollywood Homicide, and 1989’s Batman. The estate was as impressive on the interior as it was on the exterior, boasting such finery as the fabulous sconces being offered for sale here. These magnificent Art Deco sconces represent the absolute finest in American craftsmanship from that era. On the rear of each sconce you can see the prop catalog serial numbers validating their Hollywood history. The design of these sconces incorporates a French ribbon on a pole tapering into a cluster of tassels at the bottom, with three Serenity Palm leaves affixed to the pole. Each palm leaf is further enhanced by cut crystal amber prisms hanging from each leaf. Each sconce measures approximately 22.5” (57.15 cm) long, 16” (40.64 cm) wide, and 9”(22.86 cm) deep. Constructed of heavy antique molded brass, each sconce weighs approximately 8.5 lbs without the prisms. They were assembled in three distinct detachable components to support the weight of the sconce. It is not an overstatement to say that it is virtually impossible to find a sconce of this vintage and quality in private hands today. I have listed these in a "Buy It Now" format to avoid the unreasonably low pricing that is sometimes prevelant in the standard auction format, and to establish some purchase price parameters. As such, you don't have to simply be a watcher until the last minute. "Buy It Now" means just that, you can make an offer to purchase these fine sconces at anytime. In fact, the earlier in the auction, the more inclined I am to give good pricing discounts.I will consider any reasonable offers, so please feel free to contact me. I realize that this is Ebay and everyone is looking for a "steal" or a hidden bargain, and the bargain in these pieces is the fact that they are even available in the marketplace at all! Pieces like this are most often found in galleries, museums, and historical estates worldwide. This pair of sconces was recently valued at between $5,000.00-$6,500 at an internationally recognized auction appraisal event. If you have further questions or requests for information about these beautiful sconces, please feel free to send me a message. Thank you! These sconces are eligible for FREE custom antique packing and worldwide shipping with reasonable accepted offers... Please see pictures as part of description. Experienced collectors know, and new collectors should be aware that truly vintage and/or antique items will have some type(s) of slight or minor imperfections or marks of character. These are the time-acquired features that lead collectors to wonder about how the piece must have been used and by whom. Such marks of use and character give fine pieces their authenticity, charm, and desirability. Please understand that most of the items that we sell are either truly vintage or antique, so expect some wear unless we specify mint or similar condition. Before placing a bid please carefully review photographs and if you have any questions e-mail me before bidding to avoid any potential misunderstanding.
