Antique French Renaissance 4pc Tea & Coffee Set - 4084 grams !Antiques:Silver:Tea / Coffee / Chocolate Pots (click picture for more images & measurements) A truly outstanding example of the skilled artistry of 19th century French silversmiths, this museum quality antique French sterling silver 4pc néo-Renaissance Tea & Coffee Set, of extraordinary splendor and skilled craftsmanship, beautifully represents an age of untold luxury and elegance in the art of dining. Comprising Teapot, Coffee Pot, Sugar Bowl and Cream Jug, this uniquely styled set features astonishing mythological chimera capped scroll handles with unique pineapple mounts, bodies adorned with stunning cast and chased applied strapwork cartouches embellished with dramatically detailed lion mascarons, exotic fruits and scrolling foliate motifs in deep bas relief, and domed lids surmounted by meticulously detailed cast and chased finials in the form of a head sculpture of a majestic Renaissance lady, endowed with a jewel bedecked headdress and an elaborate ruff collar. Other outstanding features of this remarkable set include the lavishly detailed spouts, and striking medallion clad strapwork feet. A veritable masterpiece! Masterly crafted from the highest quality silver, the 4pc set weighs an incredible 4084 grams or 131 troy ozs (the teapot alone weighs 1365 grs! ), and truly exemplifies the extraordinary talents of its maker. Each piece is stamped with the French Minerve 950 1st standard mark and maker's mark for celebrated Parisian silversmith Robert LINZELER, who was awarded two gold medals at the 1900 Exposition Universelle in Paris. In 1897, Linzeler succeeded Jules PIAULT (who commenced trading in 1860), and each base is co-signed PIAULT-LINZELER. Excellent condition, and the vermeil (18k gold plated silver) interiors of the sugar bowl & creamer are beautifully preserved. An exceptional find, and a very rare opportunity to acquire a 4pc tea & coffee set of such presence and beauty. The tray shown in the images is not part of the original service, and will be listed separately. Please click the listing image to access photos and measurements, and use the Zoom feature to explore the extraordinary fine detailing of each piece. This 4pc set is part of a truly luxurious, most likely specially commissioned silverware service. Its matching jardinière is listed separately, and its simply amazing 211pc matching silver, vermeil and mother of pearl flatware service (including 3 sets of knives and 'mascaron' knife rests) should be ready for listing in just a few days!
