Antique French Renaissance Sterling Caryatid Centerpiece JardiniereAntiques:Silver:Jardinieres:Vases (click picture for more images & measurements) A truly outstanding example of the skilled artistry of 19th century French silversmiths, this remarkable and uniquely styled antique French sterling silver Renaissance style Centerpiece Jardinière, of such extraordinary splendor and skilled craftsmanship, beautifully represents an age of untold luxury and elegance in the art of dining. Sensational and meticulously detailed caryatid handles terminate with claw feet, and bombé sides feature pierced panels of interlacing strapwork motifs, exotic fruits in deep bas relied cascading down applied strapwork, and stunning strapwork cartouches embellished with dramatically detailed lion mascarons, exotic fruits and scrolling foliate motifs. A veritable masterpiece - from the very tip of the caryatids' exquisite tiara & ribbon bedecked hair, down to its perlé draped paw feet! Masterly crafted from the highest quality silver, the centerpiece weighs an impressive 1960 grams or 63 troy ozs (2425 grams including its original ormolu gilt metal liner). It is stamped with the French Minerve 950 1st standard mark and maker's mark for celebrated Parisian silversmith Robert LINZELER, who was awarded two gold medals at the 1900 Exposition Universelle in Paris. In 1897, Linzeler succeeded Jules PIAULT (who commenced trading in 1860), and the base is co-signed PIAULT-LINZELER. Condition is excellent with just light signs of use to the ormolu liner to note. An exceptional find, and a very rare opportunity to acquire a piece of such presence and beauty. Please click the listing image to access photos and measurements, and use the Zoom feature to explore the extraordinary fine detailing of this museum quality piece. This centerpiece is part of a truly luxurious, most likely a specially commissioned tableware service. Its matching 4pc tea & coffee set is listed separately, and its simply amazing 211pc matching silver, vermeil and mother of pearl flatware service (including 3 sets of knives and 'mascaron' knife rests) should be ready for listing in just a few days!
