Description
MASTERPIECE LONG-LEGGED BIRD EASTER ISLAND Century Barahona/Geisse Collection With this piece we start a new sale of Tribal Art from the Barahona/Geisse Collection. This time we have selected approximately 40 pieces of Oceanic and African art specially Rapa Nui art. Without the special characteristics of each piece, I want to emphasize that it’s an exhibition of history, beauty and magic. With this I mean that the collection as a whole increases the singular value of each piece. This because we have an almost complete trajectory of the Island’s history. Each piece is a masterpiece on it’s own... the set, an exclusive, complete and valuable collection. You will see the physical description of the Rapa Nui dream. Artifacts of religious and war uses, exclusive figures of the most classic Rapa Nui art and strange figures, very exclusive that you will hardly find on any other collection. MASTERPIECE LONG-LEGGED BIRD EASTER ISLAND Barahona/Geisse Collection The sample has a chronological sequence that clearly begins with this stylized zoomorphic figure of a long-legged bird carved with prehistoric tools. The roughness of the surface and the unique marks left by the chisel and obsidian knives confirm it’s ancient origin. I do not know whether this piece has a mythological or religious meaning. For my modest artistic sensitivity, this figure exceeds the figurative art and the magic surrealism, locating on a disjointed plan of everything that is known. I locate this piece on a superior rank of art. The plastic equilibrium of a stylized body, asymmetrical, curved towards the interior… it is not a random act of art; therefore the modality of sale for the more valuable pieces will be with a reserve price.I can not give a documented opinion of something so strange; I haven’t found information that leads me to visualize some kind of explanation. If we could make an analogy with the contemporary art I would say this is alternative art.
