This is a MAGNIFICENT, OLD Chinese carved ivory sculpture - circa 1910. It is carved from SOLID, HEAVY, Genuine African elephant ivory tusk - guaranteed! The divinity is portrayed with 3 busts, one on top of the other - each with 3 faces, facing forward and the right and left - on top a seated figure of Buddha, meditating on a lotus blossom, 20 arms!! Each carrying a different object - the god is adorned with many jewels, all carved from within the piece - the 2 figures by her side are Long-Wang-Niu, who is the daughter of the dragon king (she’s on the right), and on the left is Chan-Ts’ai-Tong Tseu the excellent Young boy. SUPERB detail and finish with wonderful facial features on all the busts - nice age patina and beautiful grain. The god is standing on a large lotus blossom and a pedestal base which is finely engraved with Chinese symbols and abstract designs. Overall the piece is in EXCELLENT condition with usual age ware, no losses or repairs. It measures an IMPRESSIVE 30 1/4" tall on the wood base (inlayed with silver wire) and 28 1/2" tall just for the ivory x 12 1/4" wide at widest point.
