Mascagni” and dated at the head “Ardenza, June 1, 1920”. This important letter represents reconciliation following a twenty- two year estranged relationship with Mascheroni, initiated by the infamous conflagrations between composer and conductor which had occurred during the rehearsals for the premiere performance of Mascagni’s opera Iris, in Rome, during November of 1898. Mascagni _______________________________ - The letter is mounted with a photograph (Guigoni & Rossi, Milano) of the composer as a framed display, measuring 13 x 22 inches to the outer frame edges. The double mat passe-partout exposes 6.50 x 10.5 inches of the letter, comprised of a single sheet of stationery vertically folded to create the two pages. The professional photograph measure 5.5 x 4 inches. - While there is slight wrinkling to the lower left corner of the first page, the letter is otherwise in outstanding, fine condition with one faint horizontal mailing fold. The photograph is also in fine condition. - - Mascagni was only twenty-six years of age when the electrifying premiere of his Cavalleria Rusticana, at the Teatro Costanzi in Rome, catapulted the impoverished musician into sudden fame and fortune.
