Description
An Old Reproduction of the Classic 1841 Map of the Republic of Texas, published in London, England in April 1841 by John Arrowsmith; Soho Square. (We have not had any of this Reproduction in quite awhile, but several were recently recovered from a Barn in North Texas. The condition of this Reproduction is “Fair to Good” on heavy paper. There is some “foxing” and slight yellowing, mostly on the back. Some water staining on the very lower parts of the Map and Some edge is slightly rough and/or repaired. This Reproduction itself is more than 20 years old and out of print.) The late date (1841) of this Map showing the Republic of Texas from 1836, it's year of Independence is due to Great Britain's recognition of Texas as a Republic on the 16th of November 1840. England's original objection to the independence of Texas was reportedly due to the extension of slavery. Recognition was finally given in an effort to limit expansion of the United States to the West. Routes of the Travelers are shown, as are the newest Counties (Robertson, Milam and Nacogdoches)some extending all the way to the Red River. Bexar County represented the entire Northwest area which was essentially unexplored until the ill-fated Santa Fe Expedition of Texans in 1841 under Mirabeau Lamar's Presidency of the Republic. As the map and it's insert indicates, Texas Territory included what is today the "Panhandle" of Oklahoma, Eastern New Mexico, portions of Southern and Central Colorado and South Central Wyoming, until the "Compromise of 1850". SIZE IS APPROXIMATELY 21" X 25" (I Collect and Sell Historical Maps that are either, Unique Collectible Reproductions or Antique. I do not copy, reprint or republish any Maps. Please note that this Map is not simply a photo copy, recent Reproduction or recent bulk reprint. It is a COLLECTIBLE REPRODUCTION from the Highlands Historical Map Collection, in very limited circulation, and very limited availability. It was published many years ago by a wonderful Texas Historian, Map Collector and Publisher, who is now deceased. Highlands Historical ceased publishing many years ago).
