Please visit my ebay store:     This two-stringed bowed instrument has a pastoral character and, fitting for an instrument with strings made of horse hair, often evokes the Kyrgyz love of horses in the melodies and rhythms of some of the most popular pieces for kyl (which means 'horse's tail') kiak. The strings and the bow are made from horsehair. At present there are several modernized types of the kyl-kyiak. They enable the komuz players to significantly enhance their performing mastery and the instruments' sounding and make it possible to use the kul-kyiak as a leading instrument in orchestras of the Kyrgyz national instruments. Traditionally, the kyl-kyiak reflects festive events in the people's life and imitates the polyphonic animal kingdom. Although this instrument is similar to the violin, its playing technique is quite different. For example if violin is played standing up, holding the instruments body down with the chin, the kyl-kiyak is played sitting on the floor with legs crossed or sitting on a chair. The instrument is held vertically, holding lower part of the instrument against one knee. The bow is moved gently, without pressurizing, barely touching strings and not allowing them to touch the neck of the instrument.     ORIGIN: In Central Asia there is a beautiful land, crossed by the Tien Shan and Pamir-Alai mountain ranges.
