Description
Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Of all the books I’ve seen and tried using to determine Japanese art signatures, this book is the very best. It’s rare having only been published once in 1987. It’s 399 pages in length and profusely filled with character pages and methods to determine the reading of the signatures of swordsmiths, metal workers, lacquer artists, netsuke carvers, trademarks, seals and signatures on woodblock prints. Apart from the mainstream characters as they generally appear, there is also a great section showing derivatives of these characters in the more ‘artistic’ or ‘grass’ style in which they often appear. Great details provided for working out all the various forms of dating, clan names and titles. The book is in near new condition, a hardcover with its dust jacket. No marks or notes on the inside. Fine quality paper. It measures 7x10 inches. I have another and wouldn’t part with it. I stumbled on this copy in the library of an enthusiast whose collecting days are sadly coming to an end. Here’s a chance to secure a book that I recommend without hesitation as the best ‘all in one’ aid to the translation of Japanese art characters.
