Description
A stunning French modernist floorstanding lamp, designed by Jean-Louis Domecq for Jielde, 1950sA rare and extremely striking French modernist industrial lamp. Executed in polished steel it has five articulating arms, a hemispherical shade and heavy, solid metal base. The lamp is signed 'JIELDE / MADE IN FRANCE' on the shade.Each of the five arm sections measure around 40 cm (15.75 inches) in length. Each of the joints articulates, making it extremely versatile (it can be used in large and comparatively small spaces alike) and manoeuvrable. It has a total reach of over 2 metres (80 inches) and a minimum one of just 24 inches (61 cm). The shade's diameter is about 8 inches (20 cm) if you include the outer rim or 6.5 inches (16.5 icm) if you don't.It also has a Fresnel lens attached to the shade; an original Jielde optional extra.Condition: The lamp is in fabulous condition with only the most minor surface signs of age and use and no damages. The metal has been polished to a mirror finish and there are no significant damages such as heavy scratches, splits, cracks, corrosion or dents. It has obviously been extremely well handled over the decades and recently restored to a very high standard by its previous owner. It apparently has also been recently rewired, so the wiring and (Continental European 2-pin) plug is modern and not original. However in common with all vintage electrical items, it must be inspected by a qualified electrician before use.
