Description
Thank you very much for considering these beautiful works of art. We are now retired and must part with a collection of over 100 ivory carvings we have loved and taken care of for nearly 40 years. We are very proud to offer only the very FINEST in QUALITY ivory carvings. These carvings are 100% genuine ELEPHANT IVORY and in EXCELLENT CONDITION. They were HAND CARVED and HAND SCRIMSHAWED in China by a gifted master craftsman in the early 1900s. They have a lovely patina that nature has chosen to bestow upon them. These carvings are UNIQUE and exhibit beautiful IVORY GRAIN which is guaranteed to be clearly visible. The ivory has been highly polished and exquisitely detailed. The quality of the ivory, the quality of the carving and the quality of the scrimshaw work are all exceptional. These carvings were legally imported into the USA. These carvings can only be shipped to locations within the USA. In January of 2006 Columbus (the experts in Asian art) provided an auction estimate on these pieces of $9,000. Auction estimates are conservative and typically well below appraised values. WARRIOR in CHARIOTS - MATCHED PAIR These exquisitely carved and rare okimono depict Chao Tzu-lung from the Peking Opera "The Yellow Crane Tower" in elaborate chariots drawn by two horses. One is basically the mirror image of the other. Each figure of Chao Tzu-lung wears traditional robes and attributes and is accented by heavily incised chain mail. Each holds a spear in one hand and the reins of the horses in the other. Each chariot is drawn by two superbly carved and scrimshawed horses to which the artist has done a masterful job of imparting a feeling of motion. Each chariot is also heavily decorated not only on the body of the chariot itself but also upon the wheels upon which it rests. Each piece stands nearly one foot tall without the stand, measures over one foot in length and the ivory alone weighs an astonishing 9 1/4 Pounds in total! Each comes with its own custom wood stand. If you are looking for a pair of stunning ivory okimonos that will be the centerpiece of your collection - look no further. This exquisite pair will really make a bold statement in either a home or an office environment and should only increase in value over the years.
