It appears to be painted on bone & is in stunning condition. The colors are vibrant as the day it was painted. After some searching its provenance I think it was probably painted in the latter half of the 19th century. The subject appears to be a typical Mogul Court scene centered in what is today Afghanistan / Pakistan / Northern India.
