galerielithique Store INTERESTING FLINT CHOPPING TOOL Typology : Interesting specimen of a chopping tool. Cutting : This particular piece was created using a flint pebble. One face was cut flat, as the large negative flake scar can attest, and this convex area could have been used the smooth or rub. The cutting edge on the side of this flat area presents small retouches. The other face was left partly cortical ; two strong points were created, forming a groove betwwen the two, maybe to insure a safe grip while rubbing. The points show evidence of useware, as does the cutting edge. Very Nice muti-purpose tool ! Dating, hominid : This implement belongs to the late Pebble Culture (Lower Paleolithic period, circa 650 000 years ago), and was conceived by Homo HEIDELBERGENSIS. Origin : It was found in the Grand-Pressigny area, discovered in the Creuse's ancient riverbed, where the flint was polished in the turmoils of the sands and waters. Sizes : 10 cm X 12 cm Weight : 680 g A beautiful patina embellishes this tool from the Pebble Culture. Very well preserved, no modern damage.
