Description   Here is a very old historic effigy pipe made out of red slate. I have seen pendants and gorgets made form this material but not a pipe. The pipe is large and in the shape of a seated man. The drilling looks primitive and not done with a metal bit, I tried my best to take photos of this. The hole at the base of the smoke bowl is very tiny, and should be. The pipe weighs just over 2 lbs and is 11 ½” long and is 1” thick and 4 “ at it’s widest point. I don’t think that it is plains Indian but most likely from the great lakes region, I could be wrong because I have not seen any thing to compare it to, all comments are welcomed. I am calling it historic and do not think it is prehistoric, it is defiantly very old. The condition is very good but dose have a chip at the foot and a few more very small ones.
