I have always heard these things called Somovar, and they were used to make tea when quests were to arrive. This particular one is electric with a very nice interior with the heating rods intact. The electric cord must be from Germany because the prongs are round rather than flat. The outside of the item is shiny  chrome and it does not tarnish like silver. The handles and knobs on lid are Bakelite. The lid is designed to let steam escape. This is a very neat collector item. Please check it out and bid.
