Description
There's not too many old five section, four-draw telescopes around these days. At least, I haven't found many. I have one for auction now, and it is in fine condition, with correct easy pull/retention when opening or closing each section. Moreover, it is without dents, other than for one very minor indentation on the second draw tube. Most telescopes may be easily identified by the maker's name; this one however has no markings on it at all. It is quite obviously a turn of the 19th/20 century instrument, old and constructed of brass. Interestingly, the brass has been layered with a black enamel finish..the photo's will show this, and show how use has revealed the main brass body in places. The case is also black and the telescope folds down into a quite suprisingly small 20 cms and extends when withdrawn to 70 cms. It is equipped with a sliding sun shield, and a protective sliding plate for the eye-piece. I would guess that this was a military telescope. Light, compact and blackened to avoid detection through reflection. But that's just a guess. A 5cms width object lens and an estimated magnification of 25x completes the description. The lens and eye-piece are in good order, and a quite reasonable, fairly sharp image may be obtained when using the telescope. A low start, and no reserve.
