Description
In this Auction you find an extremely rare and valuable Butterfield type sundial. This brass sundial is signed by the famous instrument maker Delure of Paris. It is very probably Jean Baptiste Nicolas Delure ca. 1715 Paris. The piece is in good original condition and has a fine patina. There is no damage and no repairs. The compass works good as does the bird pointer on the adjustable gnomon. The sundial is engraved with four degrees of latitude (40, 45, 50 and 55 degrees). The north direction shows the fleur-de-lys. The underside of the piece is finely engraved with 28 cities and their latitudes. The sundial measures 80 mm long and 70 mm wide. Examples of Delures varied work are in several museums. Sometimes you find an instrument of Delure on the market of scientific instruments.   The sundial is in reality quite perfect and  much better than the photos could show.   Mirror and rack of the sundial presentation belong to the auction.   Shipping will be done by DHL starting in Germany. Shipping costs depend on the destination.    On Jul-12-08 at 14:38:09 PDT, seller added the following information:Please mail for better photos if you are interested.
