You are looking on a rare excellent condition old tumbuk lada / tumbuk lado, literally translates to Pepper Crusher. It was told that this name was given because if somebody got hurt by this dagger , it`s fell hot and spicy like as got chili or pepper.   A scarce tumbuk lado with a rare anak ayam hilt, which hilt and sheath made from gading (elephant`s tusk – iv*ry), finely carved ! This is an excellent sample of the highest quality of tumbuk lado.   Thick and sturdy blade has a single sharp edged and slightly curved bongkok udang profile.   Grip made from gading elephant`s tusk (iv*ry) that beautifully carved a bird head shaped, known as Anak Ayam style, a very rare grip style on this kind of edge weapon. The fitting on grip made from suassa (gold alloy) .   Sheath, supposed entire sheath was made from gading elephant`s tusk (iv*ry), middle part fully encased with very fine repoussed silver with floral motifs. Sheath upper part ornamented with a beautiful malayan traditional carved design , supposed Awan Larat. Sheath bottom tip shown a very nice carving on iv*ry.   Age : Indonesia archipelago weapons usually made without any date marking ,  base on the style , motifs and design , this Tumbuk Lado should be circa late of 19th Century.     Please look at my pictures and judge on your own opinion .
