Lid comes off completely with false hinge in back. Fits snug for rings and small things.  Signed on back with maker. The Box was purchased in an antique store in the late 70's Dimensions: approx 3" diameter x  1 1/2" height ABOUT THE HISTORY of The Card & Note: HISTORICAL Keepsake Jewelry Trinket Box given to " Sister Mason " by Major Cap't Montgomery on  July 18th , 1917.  Includes the Majors Wartime Card & Handwritten Note which was neatly folded and has been in the box ever since. After much research, we have discovered that the Box must have been given by "MONTY" also known as Field Marshal Montgomery (1887 – 1976), during the first World War . This box may have been given to "Sister Mason while he was in her care, this would have been after his recovery.
