Description This authentic mid 19th century Wall box was found in Virginia and was most likely made there around 1840-1860.  It is made from Pine & Poplar woods and has quite the nail history, most being early square cut-nails as shown !  This fine box has early construction, note the way the side boards are mortised through the back board for added support.  The double compartments really make this box extra special and was probably used to store candles.  I do not believe this box was ever painted.  There was an old coat of varnish used on it years ago but most of that has worn away and I can not find a trace of old paint.  It is so nice and honest that it really doesn't need paint.  It measures 15 7/8" tall, 11 1/4" wide and 6 5/8" deep.  You really don't find these early two/tiered Wall boxes very often so keep a close eye on this one !  Good luck and check the other country antiques I have listed, thank you !!
