The sides are fine. The rug has great coloring especially with the contrast between the red and the blue. There is a small hole on the border (about 1.5" x 1"), but the rug can be used as is or can be rewoven at your choice( there is pile around). The rug has no odor and no stains and has been professionally hand cleaned and shampooed. It is sturdy, strong, and ready to use in your home.
