Description
On offer here is a spectacular French "Louis XVI" Mirror, early 19th.c. This was possibly a console mirror. I acquired this piece as well as several chandeliers, several pieces of art, and another mirror from the Williams Island Estate of a European Prince. This mirror is heavy carved giltwood, not the regular gilt, but 23 K. This is the best, and most expensive form of gilding, 23 karat which gives a rich and shiny "metallic" real gold look. I hope the pictures show it, it was bright while I was photographing and may have washed a bit of the richness out. It is an amazing piece. Note the top carved ribbon, basket overflowing with flowers flanking both sides of the mirror. Carved detail work all the way down to the bottom of the piece terminating in intensely carved floral swags at the bottom. Notice how old the piece is when turned around to see the back. It is a great piece of antique furniture. The measurements are 60" by 25" by 3 inches deep. There has been restoration to the top crown, with the original pieces. I see a restoration to a small flower or two on the side. Some small nicks to the gilding but this is minor and this is an absolutely beautiful piece! Good Luck!
