Description
This model of the Brig "Pilgrim," the 1834 vessel that author Richard Henry Dana sailed aboard and described in his book "Six Years Before The Mast," was crafted by master ship model builder E.C. Sims. It needs some attention to its rigging after many years in storage and some refastening of loose parts, part replacements, etc., however it is a remarkable piece. E.C. Sims was one of the finest model ship builders, and his works rarely (if ever) become available. The dimensions are 24" high (base to top of mast), the base is 5.5" wide, and the hull with bowsprit is about 23" long. I am selling this piece "as is," as it is in need of some restoration. Sims' ships are found in maritime museums and at the White House, and in the hands of a few fortunate collectors.
