The hardware, including two front hooks and the carry handle, are brass. The knob on the front is ivory as are the two very small knobs near either front hook. They were meant to hold the hooks in place so that they don't swing free when the lid is unhooked. On the top of the lid is another very small ivory knob near the handle. Directly across from it there should be another knob to stop the handle from marring the wood, but this knob is missing. The workmanship that went into the making of this box is very fine. Please note the corner dovetails. Cut nails were used in the construction of this wonderful box. There is a wooden insert inside that is sectioned off into three parts. Although the lock mechanism is intact, unfortunately, I do not have the key. The box measures 17 3/8" long by 7 3/4"wide and is 7 5/8" high. This rare and unique apothecary box has a wonderful aged patina and few flaws. Albeit, there are a few scratches and rub marks commensurate with the age of this artifact.
