The masks all show signs of age and use in the yam harvest ceremonies. As a group they present a lively and colorful array of both classic and somewhat unusual personalities spanning generations of use. Custom display stands of metal and wood are included. _____Mask 1).  Old tight weave; caked layers of pigment evident; just a slight hint of fraying on the nose ridge, completely stable.  Height 7.5”   Mask 2).  Smoky old patina on back with some glossy areas; strong tight weave; good color from last use. Height 13”  Mask 3).  Of the mask-type that is washed of its pigment after use; smoked patina; charming presence. Height 13.5”  Mask 4).  Extremely old; caked layers of pigment; very tight weave to the eyes;  slight fray on nose ridge, completely stable; circular top-knot has old stabilization of wire and crusty pitch; crown shows evidence of being heightened long ago; rare double-mesh fan design. Height 24.5”  Mask 5).  This little mask has a wonderfully humorous asymmetrical personality; strong flawless weave; glossy patina on back; strong color from its most recent use.  Height 12”   Mask 6).  Well cared for mask with feather bark-band intact; very tight unbroken weave; excellent color, free of smoke; I stabilized the feather band in two places with bush twine. Height 13.5”  Mask 7).  This diminutive mask is by far the oldest of the group; extremely tiny weave, almost like stiff fabric; old gray patina on back; slight but stable fray above one eye.
