Ferahan is one of the best known 19th century carpet design. It in no longer produced, but in its heyday it had a great reputation for quality combined with elegance and restraint. The good example of Ferahan can be found in museums, stately homes and private collection. In early days it used to be called "peral of Persia". Ferahan rugs are among the most luxurious persian rug, easily could be on top five, an unusually rare example of the craftsmanship of the people of this pratically isolated portion of Persia. Ferahan carpets have an otstanding record of selling at major auction houses such as Sothby's and Christies, some have sold up to $500.00 PSF. The Ferahans are famous for their second to none; first  color combination, the field color come in Red, dark blue and sometimes in ivory and green, the richness and  crispness that comes in Ferahan is outstanding, all colors are so harmonious and their mixture is so well balanced. Secondly; the design, usually surrounding a magnificent medallion centre figure which is turn is supported by anchors at top and bottom, there is a wealth of floral ornamentation in a field, which abounds in delicate tracery of stems and leaves exemplifying in a marked degree the patient care with which these craftsmen wrought. Thirdly; durability and quality, because of the high kpsi and sturdy foundation, Ferahan rugs are so durable and last for ages. The Ferahan that is offered here easily could meet everything that we just said at the above, comes from our own personal collection and there is something very interesting about this rug. As we mentioned Ferahan in not produced any more, therefore, every antique Ferahan that you see was made in late 19th century and Ferahan Sarouk such as this one was made in very early 20th century. This is the type that barely was used due to its Perfect mint condition, is an absolute flaw less and still has complete pile from top to bottom with original fringes perfectly intact at both ends. We bought this rug back in 1886 and it has been kept  in the safe along with other rugs.
