A study of the magnificent mid-18th century gold toilette service of Sophie Magdalene of Denmark. The sumptuously decorated service originally included a mirror, water basin & ewer, candlesticks, snuffers & tray, four graduated pairs of boxes, two brushes, four flasks, a salver, two pin trays, a covered bowl, a plate, a knife, spoon & fork, and two more flasks; in later years more articles were added, until the assemblage totaled 46 golden articles weighing 20 kilos. This careful study of the set includes a summary in English, as well as notes on the decorations and makers, and illustrations and descriptions of each piece.
