Description
An impressive map from the 1860 Imperial Atlas of Modern Geography: The United States of North America Provenance The Imperial Atlas of Modern Geography; an extensive Series of Maps, etc. by W.G. Blackie, Ph.D., F.R.G.S., Editor of the "Imperial Gazetteer."  London:  Blackie and Son, Warwick Square, E.C.; Glasgow and Edinburgh. 1860. Printed by W. G. Blackie and Co. Printers, Villafield, Glasgow.  This is an original, hand-colored in outline 150 year-old map. We do not sell reproductions of any kind. Size / Format In millimetres (and inches) Sheet:  540 x 375 (21¼ x 14¾) Map:  484 x 338 (19 x 13¼) These maps were all 'tipped in' to the atlas, meaning that they could be removed as a single intact sheet. The double maps have a single fold in the center. They are, of course, all printed on one side only. Condition These maps are in very good condition, with light even age-toning. The colors are bright and make the maps stand out better than most when viewed at a distance. Most of the maps are absolutely spotless with not foxing or marks of any kind. A few maps have a few minor marks and tears in the margins. Mark on the map itself, or tear extending into the map area, is noted in red in each listing. Remarks The Imperial Atlas maps are among the most beautiful maps made in mid-late 19th century Britain. The engraving is finely detailed and the hand-coloring in outline is bold and still very bright. These maps are large and impressive and are listed at prices well above $100 each on some websites.  The cartographer and engraver of most othese maps was W. Lowry. In the first image, the map has been reduced in size to less than 40% of its actual size.  For the second image, part of the map has been magnified X 2. Neither image has been adjusted or altered in any other way.     Detailed information about Shipping and Payment
