The mortar is about 19 cm ( 7"1/2 ) high, diameter 18 cm (7"1/8). The mortar has a beautiful dark brown patina. The interior bears traces of considerable use. This is a big and sophisticated example of a broad class of mortar common in Germany in the fifteenth century.
