Description
Variously known as a cargo lamp when swung off a boom or a deck lamp when mounted on a bulkhead, this brass lamp burns either oil or kerosene, but in nearly 50 years of having it around, the only thing ever I've ever seen burnt in it were candles at Christmas. This could have come off of any number of ships wrecked at Zidell in Seattle or Portland in the 50's or 60's, or possibly from one of the Victory ships or the German tall ships interned in Seattle's Lake Union during World War I(such as the Moshulu or the Monongahela). I can't find any maker's mark on it. I have seen lamps like this on some sailing ship, like the Wawona at Seattle or the Balclutha at San Fran. Every time I've seen one of these, it's been mounted on a bulkhead, using the bracket riveted on the back. Overall size including the wire guards is approx 19" H, 11" W, & 8" D. It's been painted black, probably with enamel, but should strip & clean up just fine. I'm going to require insurance & payment by PayPal on this, unless you pick it up. The insurance runs between $2.60 & $4.60, which will be added to the basic shipping of approx $15.00. I can ship this to Canada(for a ridiculous fee), or even bring it to the Metro Vancouver & lower Vancouver Island areas
