Description
Offered is a Sartorius-Werke precision scale, or often called an analytical balance. It was built in Gottingen, Germany around the turn of the century ( 1900 ). It operates perfectly, with nothing flawed or missing. The base is polished black marble, there is a slight discoloration below the right tray. The balance pillar is brass w/ a leveling bubble at the rear of the base. I have read that the three " knife edge ", or balance points, are made from Russian agate. The hand rubbed mahogany cabinet opens in the front via a counter-weighted window, a beautiful brass tag displays the company logo at the top of the access window. Each tray has a glass dish, and are arrested from below w/ the left smaller knob. The large right knob rotates to lift and stabilize the beam. The weight set pieces are totally matched, w/ weights that range from 100 grams down to the 1 gram piece. Also there are three fractional weights that are 500 mg, 200 mg, and 100 mg. Brass tweezers included. The box of weights measure 4" X 3" X 2", and a well matched set by themselves have been selling for up to $50. lately. The scale weighs about 20 lbs. and measures 17" high X 15" wide X 9" deep. The two front legs are adjustable, the single rear leg is fixed, all are made of brass. The glass is perfect. This scientific instrument was used for many occupations, including; pharmacy, botany, metallurgy, and other scientific study. It would make a beautiful display. Buyer beware of balance scales that have parts that are missing or mismatched, examine photos carefully and ask questions. I do my own special packing, but insist on insurance. I can not see this item exceeding $50.00 for packing, handling, and shipping, unless the buyer wants it shipped out of the country, which can get quite expensive. I will invoice once exact address of buyer is established. I don't make a dime off of shipping, and jump hoops to get my buyers the very best rate possible. I pay for all the packing materials and handling, the buyer pays for shipping only. Please check out my feedback. Thanks very much for looking! On Jul-26-08 at 17:18:03 PDT, seller added the following information:I can not say exactly what shipping cost will be, I have heard talk of fuel surcharges and the like lately. Please be assured that I will do my best to get you the best rate, but the fact remains that it is what it is.... it may be $65. for Texas UPS Ground and cheaper for another area w/ USPS. There is nothing in it for me, except to do the best I can for my buyer. Thanks for taking a moment to read this.
