Description
This is a very old ship model which I purchased at the closing of an antique shop in Greensburg Indiana.  I have lightly dusted it as best I could with a soft paint brush -- it had been stored in their basement and carried its fair share of dust & grunge and still could use a little more spit and polish on the sails to be brought back to snuff but I am a novice and don't want to risk damaging it -- someone has put so much work into this.    I will describe as I see it. It measures 15" in length from the tip of the bow to the very back end of the ship.   It stands 13" tall at the center tallest point.  All the sails are made of a heavy canvas material and each has been hand painted with the various crosses and the coat of arms you see on the front sail.   The little wind direction flags at the top are also hand painted.    All the string on this is very old string, hand tied, and is attached to the sides of the vessel  with tiny brass nails, darkened with age --  the pulleys are all wooden.  The main portion of theship is hand carved and shows wear to the paint on the sides commensurate with where it has been held or handled over the years.   The colors of the paint used are incredible and look like some of the old milkpaint colors used on antique furniture in the 1800s....there is the old light blue, the dark almost black green, the creamy white.   I don't know if the base is original to it or not...tho it is made of very old plywood on the bottom, it just doesn't seem to be as old as the ship itself, so it may have been applied at a later point in its life.   It is painted a very dark green and has the word 'Royal'  painted in fancy gold letters (tried to give you a pic but it came out rather dark). Just a great piece of maritime folk art which I think you would enjoy.   If I have missed something, please let me know.  In my opinion, this is at least 60 years old (judging from the materials used) and I just don't know how much older it could be. Shipping will be $6 paid by winner with insurance at their discretion. I accept Paypal, personal checks (7 day hold to ship) or money orders. Thanks for looking and please check my other auctions as I am always happy to combine shipping for multiple purchases:)
