Description
I have spent many hours of work restoring this antique 1881 Willcox & Gibbs treadle sewing machine and cabinet to remove the rust, corrosion, and splitting veneer left by decades of the abuses of time and lack of attention. It has spent many years stored in a barn where the wheels on the base had frozen solid with rust.  With loving care, I have restored as near as possible the cabinet and the machine to a semblance of their original states.   The machine was probably made in 1881, serial  #A365258.  I cleaned more than a century of rust and corrosion from the iron base; it retains its original paint which I have protected with a hand-rubbed oil finish.  The cabinet is solid walnut.  New matching walnut veneer was replaced on the cabinet top.  The original coffin top has been stripped and refinished.  All the wooden parts have been refinished, stained a red mahogany, and sealed with a light coating of lacquer.    I have thoroughly cleaned the sewing head and installed a new belt. The machine, too, was frozen with rust, caked oil, and corrosion. I repainted it and have applied new reproduction decals. The machine comes with many of its original attachments. The owners manual with it is dated 1913.  Inside one of the drawers is the original sticker which cautions, “Use only genuine needles.” There is also a package of genuine needles in the drawer with a receipt dated 1932.  All you need to sew on this working double-looped machine are needle, thread, and foot power.       On Sep-20-08 at 13:32:48 PDT, seller added the following information:This is a chainstitch not a double loop stitch, my bad I'm still learning about these sewing machines, THANKS!!!
