I don't know how old it is. It measures 6.5 inches tall, 3.5 inches wide and roughly 3.5 inches from front to back at its widest points. The dominant material is metal-but I don't know what the metal is. There is a decorative rose feature that feels like plastic to me, so, maybe it's celluloid. It is surrounded in what reminds me of an ormolu frame. In front of the metal camel is a removable glass container, perhaps for a thimble, which has some minor chipping around the edges. I don't know if the glass is original to the piece or not. The pin cushion itself is covered in green fabric-I would guess mohair. The footed base reminds me of jewelry caskets. This piece is not perfect, but its unique character would make it a great addition to your collection!
