The piece is probably Victorian period, either late 19th century or very early 20th century. The painting is beautifully rendered and was certainly painted by a skilled artist. The paint is applied to a ribbed linen type fabric and the paint appears to be absorbed into the fabric, so that the piece can be rolled without the image cracking. The fabric is affixed to a pole on either end, top and bottom. The piece measures 62" in length and 29" in width, exclusive of the pole ends - it weighs 3 lbs. The lady is quite lovely and there is a heraldic type fruit and shield design at the bottom and a similar design at the top. It is in very good condition with no staining, wear or fading - this has been well stored over the years.
