This textile dates from around 1890 ~ This cover was produced from hand woven natural hemp, with the most wonderful natural blue stripe.   The weave is a heavy weight DURABLE twill weave. Over 6 pounds of weight on this textile!! This amazing textile is SO heavy, so beautiful. It is 100% hand stitched and is made from taking 2 large panels of the lovely linen and hand stitching them down the middle, it is like a Huge sack. The sides are all hand stitched and there is an opening at the top for the feathers. ~~~ This textile would have been used as a matress cover, and stuffed with feathers for sleeping! ~*~ . The weight is a heavy weight~ this would make the most charming duvet cover for a twin bed or I use one as a large, reading pillow in my childrens room.I simply stuffed it with 2 feather comforters, and I use grain sacks against the wall stuffed with feather inserts for the corners. I keep their books on a little shelf near by~*~ This would also be wonderful stuffed and used as a soft place to lay in the living room~*~ Or of course, the fabirc would be wonderful used for upholstery, pillows , you name it ! ~*~ I also one in my daughters's room  and have stuffed it with a feather comforter. It remains on the bottom of her bed,  and on a chilly night I just pull up!  ~~*~  ~~*( cover TWO)      This matress cover measures approximately 6.13 feet long by 3 feet wide ~*~ (187cm long 91wide)but of course it is either twice as long or twice as wide, depending on how it is opened out if being used for fabric~*~   This lovely matress cover is in wonderful wonderful condition ~*~ ~ ~*~  there is some light storage dirt that  will wash beautifully.  Simply machine wash warm, tumble dry.
