Description
KURA Antique Quartersawn Oak Entry Door Glass Lite Hardware Spectacular door salvaged from an old Victorian in Hartford, Connecticut. It has a solid oak core covered with 1/8” riftsawn oak veneers. Please note that veneer does not mean inferior quality; if it were not for the veneers, this door would’ve warped a long time ago. The door has a 1/2-length glass lite, 2 raised panels with wide molding on both sides, and hardware. Restoration: At the point of salvage the door had a dark stain, no glass, no molding around the window, a few broken pieces of veneer, missing dental molding, a broken piece of molding around one of the panels, and no hardware. Since then, we’ve stripped and sanded the door, made molding for the window, replaced the broken pieces of veneer and molding, added glass, and added hardware. If you look closely, you’ll notice the molding around the window on the front side matches the molding around the panels below, and the same goes for the back side. Please note that the wood we used for the molding and repairs was all antique oak salvaged from local homes. The molding and repairs look lighter in color because we had to deep cut the wood to get the healthier pieces of wood. If we were to do the same for the rest of the door, the color would be the same. If you paint, or stain the door properly, you could give the door a uniform look. We originally bought a beveled glass lite for this door, but unfortunately we mis-measured and didn’t consider the abnormal width of the molding before ordering the glass. Because of the cost of the glass, and the fact that it couldn’t be altered; we decided to just buy a regular sheet of glass. However, if you would like a beveled lite and are willing to pay for it; we’ll order, pickup, and install it for no extra charge. Hardware: Almost all of hardware on the door was made by “P.F. Corbin” circa 1895. Included are 2 bronze knobs, 1 bronze escutcheon, 1 bronze rosette, 1 brass thumb turn, 1 steel mortise lock with brass faceplate, 1 “Yale” cylinder lock with 2 keys, 1 bronze mail slot, and 3 bronze hinges. Please note that all of the bronze parts are solid, heavy, cast bronze—not stamped or plated iron. The door is equipped with some of the finest antique hardware we have available. The entry set features the “Genoa” pattern. It has a gorgeous Neo-Classical design featuring acanthus, anthemia, volutes, egg and dart, and beads. The knobs have a beautiful sunken face with raised center. The mail slot has a multi-faceted form and a lovely Aesthetic (Eastlake) style pattern. The 3-knuckle, 4”x4”, hinges also have a pretty Aesthic pattern featuring flowers in a pot, geometric shapes, pots, and other floral accents. Each hinge has two cup-like finials at both ends. The mortise lock is a heavy-duty piece in fine working condition. It could be unlocked and locked from the outside with 1 of the 2 keys, and from the inside using the thumb turn. Condition: The door is very heavy, sturdy, and in excellent shape! The glass is brand new. The hardware has been cleaned and we only removed paint, dirt, and other buildup; the patina has been preserved within the crevices to promote the polished, raised details. The lock was opened, inspected, and greased to operate more smoothly. It’s a one-of-a-kind antique door in great condition. Much work went into restoring it, and making it as beautiful as it originally looked. This door will make a great aesthetic impact wherever it’s installed.
