Antique French Sterling Silver Chargers, Plates: Royal Armorial 1809Antiques:Silver, Sterling Great pair of French sterling plates approaching 200 years of age, and in excellent condition. These are nice heavy plates, weighing over 700 grams each! The design is classic and elegant, formed plates with fiddle and thread edges. Each bears a crown, probably that of a Marquis, and armorial crest. I am no heraldry expert, so anyone familiar with the crest is heartily invited to share their knowledge. The silver guarantee is .950/1000 parts silver, the maker's mark is sharp and clear, on the front and the bottom side of the plate. The marks representing membership in the Association of Goldsmiths and Silversmiths are also on both sides. There are additional marks that I haven't quite figured out yet; despite my reference books. Condition is very good to excellent. Light signs of use, the typical light evidence of polishing and utensil use; nothing significant. A great feast for the collector of the best and the older antiques available.
