Ancient Roman Bronze  APPLIQUÉ Period: I-II Century AD. We are pleased to offer this very fine rare Roman Bronze Decorative Clipeus Applique The shield protrait, clipeus,  of bronze features  a projecting head of a male figure with defined features.   The medallion/shield is slightly concave with a border in higher relief.  Projecting from the shield is the male head with piercing round eyes with incised pupils.  A short row of curls rises from the forehead framing the face falling from the center recalling the characteristic style of Alexander; the rest of the hair is pulled back and striated. At the back is the remains of a pin which was used for attachment. Truly a Charming distinctive piece. Diameter: 20mm (Just under 7/8 in.). Excellent condition with a beautiful green patina.
