This is a stunning and quite rare Great quality design, late 19th Century Victorian, early 20th Century, Arts and Crafts Harris Lebus Golden Oak, Pierced Hearts and Tulips Motifs Copper Strap Hinges Bureau Bookcase / writing Desk, Design No. 156 , and dating to around c1900. It is a top quality and well made piece by the great maker Harris Lebus, and is a wonderful Arts and Crafts Design, and is quite rare. It has the design Model No. 156 and the Registered No. 465537 stamped inside the bureau section. It is made entirerly of solid oak, and has a beautiful grain and golden colour to the oak.It is a nice tall piece, and has a solid overhanging top section, with shaped front with curved edge and suported by 3 shaped supports in the centre at the front and a pair on either of the sides. Each side section has a great pierced 4 section design stepped down as it goes to the front, with a stunning and unusual pierced Heart Motif with a tulip in middle, with a further Glasgow School style long Pierced Tulip motif below. It finishes with a curved shaped pierced design at the bottom. At the top their is an open cabinet section, with a single shelf, with the typical Harris Lebus quality solid oak slatted back panel, which runs down the whole back of the piece.Below this is the Bureau writing desk section, with a sloping fall front, with a beautiful pair of solid copper strap hinges with repousse raised organic motifs. It still retains its original working lock and key, which still works, but the key is worn, and does not catch the lock completely sometimes, but still is enough to lock it, but would benefit from having a new key cut.Inside in a fitted compartment sectioned pigeon hole unit.Next is a single drawer, with a pair of coppered round backplates and handles, which do have some copper wear.Below is 2 further shelfs, which finishes off this stunning Arts and Crafts Bureau Bookcase. It is in overall very good condition, with some nicks and marks in places consistant with its age and use, and at the very top in the front of the curved section, I think it has had a small repair, which does not show.It is in stunning condition, and has a natural waxed hifghly polished finish. It stands 60 7/8 of an inch at its tallest, and is 37 inches at its widest at the top, and is 16 1/8 of an inch at its deepest, again at the top. The main section measures 30 3/16 of an inch at its widest and is 12 7/8 of an inch deep.
