For the past several weeks, needle work and sewing items from a New England collectors estate have been offered. This is another item from the collection which spanned the 19th and 20th centuries and contained items from Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. You are bidding for a late Victorian hand painted needle and pin case. The case has linen cloth covers and the front was painted with a portrait of an older woman in a rocking chair and she is sewing. Lined on the inside with gold color silk cloth and fitted for holding needles and pins. Flannel and wool twill cloth flaps hold a small assortment of needles on the left side. On the right is a packet of for holding glass top pins (only a half dozen left). The packet has a chromolithograph decoration of a baby chick with top hat holding a song book. Measures 3 1/4" x 5 1/4" close, when open the case is 10 5/8" long. Outside a bit darkened. Inner cloth has darkened around edges, flannel shows wear. Bidding starts at $40 with no reserve.
