Description
Welcome to Sabinemoon...and points WEST!   We are very pleased to announce expansion from the Pineywoods of rural East Texas...to the "Rustic Elegance" of Ft. Worth...or as most call it, COWTOWN.   Where the west began...and still exists.  In addition to the BEST-OF-THE-BEST AUTHENTIC, ANTIQUE FOLK-ART QUILTS, we plan to add some antique WESTERN inventory in the next few weeks.       We hope many of you take this opportunity to add to your "gathering".  We sell without reserve -- bid with confidence -- all listings quality for our standard SATISFACTION-GUARANTEE -- if you don't like it, you don't have to keep it.  So take a look...visit often...and CELEBRATE true auctions and eBay at its best with Sabinemoon! Item:                    1940s-era antique AFRICAN-AMERICAN patchwork quilt, in a very RARE old pattern called Ocean Waves and Blue Diamonds -- an intense flowing pattern with lots of "motion", and hundreds or thousands of tiny intricate pieces -- lots of time, talent and love went into this old Southern BEAUTY -- someone with plenty of time on their hands made this quilt -- SHOW-STOPPING VISUALS that definitely resulted in instant FOLK-ART -- really SWEET colors and fabrics that invite you right into this sea of BLUESY reflections -- this SHOW-STOPPER is fully capable of being a SUPER-STAR in any great AAFA collection, and one that should be displayed and CELEBRATED as often as possible -- don't miss it!    Materials:             All old 100% cottons -- everything from depression-era FEEDSACKS, to earlier calicos and ticking materials, to 40s-era dress and shirting fabrics -- a true SCRAP quilt, where everything available was used -- narrowly banded and backed in solid creamy cotton -- straight edges.  Batting:                 Light-weight old hand-carded cotton batting that probably came straight from the cotton patch -- pretty thin, lays flat and even.   Handwork:           Totally hand-pieced and hand-quilted in plentiful straight rows at 4-5 small stitches per inch -- everything nicely-executed, with the handwork being on the sweet/naive side...which absolutely fits this quilt's personality.      Size:                      66" x 78"   Condition:             Good condition for a 60-year old quilt -- clean, strong and sturdy -- does show light to medium wear/usage -- colors crisp and vibrant -- mostly intact, except for two areas where a certain fabric did not hold up as well as the others, and there are small shattered (blown-out) pieces -- could be replaced with similar fabric, if you wish, but is really not noticeable in the busy scheme of things -- does not distract, even from a short distance -- two tiny rips on the backside -- edges in good shape -- batting has started thinning mostly around the edges, which is only noticeable on the backside -- maybe some light surface soil -- nothing else to report, and no apologies here -- has EXCEPTIONAL display value, as you can see in the pics -- this quilt has a few flaws that are well-hidden in the busy pattern...and is still totally ENCHANTING -- a fresh breath of BLUE SEA or DIAMONDS IN A BLUE SKY -- well-worth your investment, and a MARVELOUS addition to your African-American FOLK-ART collection! Please email any questions.  Priority shipping with delivery confirmation will be $11.95 -- insurance is extra, and optional.  OUTSIDE THE U.S.A., SHIPPING WILL BE QUOTED AT END OF AUCTION -- BE PREPARED TO PAY GLOBAL AIR PRIORITY RATES ONLY.
