Description
Welcome to Sabinemoon...and points WEST! We are very pleased to announce expansion from the Pineywoods of rural East Texas...to the "Rustic Elegance" of Ft. Worth...or as most call it, COWTOWN. Where the west began...and still exists. In addition to the BEST-OF-THE-BEST AUTHENTIC, ANTIQUE FOLK-ART QUILTS, we plan to add some antique WESTERN inventory in the next few weeks. We hope many of you take this opportunity to add to your "gathering". We sell without reserve -- bid with confidence -- all listings quality for our standard SATISFACTION-GUARANTEE -- if you don't like it, you don't have to keep it. So take a look...visit often...and CELEBRATE true auctions and eBay at its best with Sabinemoon! Item: 1930s/40s-era antique African-American patchwork quilt -- an old Southern BEAUTY that is a fine example of AAFA textiles -- a true Texas FOLK-ART quilt right out of Van Zandt County, from a small black community near Canton called Wynn -- constructed in a highly IMPROVISATIONAL pattern called Stained Glass Window or Kaleidoscope -- a STUNNING array of fabrics and shards of color going in all directions -- a hurricane of VISUALS, using lots of SWEET blues and pinks -- truly a FEAST FOR THE EYES -- small blocks with intricate strips, probably made with pattern strips cut from newspapers like my grandma used to do -- this seamstress worked with fabrics instead of a paintbrush, and was a TRUE ARTIST in her own right -- FABULOUS, FOLKY, and EXTREMELY GRAPHIC -- a PROUD, FREE-SPIRIT piece of textile FOLK-ART, and a MUST-HAVE for your collection! Materials: All old 100% cottons, including a HUGE treasure-trove of depression-era FEEDSACKS -- for those that like to peruse the old prints, this one will be a true delight -- as SCRAPPY and SWEET as they come -- narrowly banded and backed in solid creamy yellow cotton -- straight edges. Batting: Light-weight batting which feels like it might be another old (even older) quilt lurking beneath -- maybe worn and used up, or perhaps "buried treasure" -- fairly thin, lays flat and even. Handwork: Totally hand-pieced and hand-quilted in a small grid at 4-5 stitches per inch -- everything nicely-done, while still maintaining a primitive/naive presence. Size: 64" x 76" Condition: Absolutely excellent condition for a 60+ year old quilt -- clean, strong and sturdy -- light wear/gentle usage -- the colors are as crisp and vibrant as the day it was completed -- everything intact, except one tiny rip on the backside -- edges in great shape -- batting in fine shape -- maybe some light surface soil, and really saying that for good measure -- nothing else to report, and no apologies here -- has EXCEPTIONAL display value, as you can see in the pics -- ready for your bed, stacked in your quilt cabinet, hung over the door of your jelly cupboard -- or hang immediately as SPECTACULAR wall-art -- this quilt is ONE-OF-A-KIND -- an ORIGINAL in every sense of the word...not to be duplicated -- total EYE-CANDY and a SWEETHEART of a quilt -- don't miss it! Please email any questions. Priority shipping with delivery confirmation will be $12.95 -- insurance is extra, and optional. OUTSIDE THE U.S.A., SHIPPING WILL BE QUOTED AT END OF AUCTION -- BE PREPARED TO PAY GLOBAL AIR PRIORITY RATES ONLY.
