Sextant AND United States Power Squadrons Star Finder 1961 AND United States Power Squadrons USPS LHA Aries Computer Since 1845 American Naval Cadets have been taught navigation by the stars. Historical navigation instruments illustrate the various ways that people have determined the location, direction, and speed of their ships at sea and in the air.Perhaps you are a Naval Officer or a member of a Power Squadron or the Coast Guard.... or maybe you know someone who would appreciate owning an antique historical Naval Navigation Instrument.... 1. U.S. NAVY BUREAU OF SHIPS E.T .S. SEXTANT Sextant from 1944 is on exhibit at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History, Behring Center. This sextant was used during WWII. It appears to be in excellent condition; no scratches, no dents, no missing parts, all identifying information is clear and easy to read. It is stored in its original wood carrying case 11" x 11 1/2 " x 5 1/2" with original hardware in very good condition commensurate with its age. Included in the carrying case with Sextant are also 2 special screw drivers, a telescope and assorted add'l mirrors. Inscribed on a brass plate on the exterior of the case reads: "BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION ECLIPSE-PIONEER DIVISION TETERBORO, NEW JERSEY, U.S.A. TYPE NO. 3052-1-A" and "U.S. NAVY BUREAU OF SHIPS E.T.S. SEXTANT MARK 2 MOD. 0 N 30190, 1943". The original owner's name (a Medical Doctor in the U.S. Navy) and the Certifying Officer's name are both indicated on a Collimation Certificate adhered inside the case. 2. United States Power Squadrons Star Finder 1961 It comes with circular plastic navigation disks and instructions on how to find celestial bodies. This Star Finder and identifier is designed to portray graphically the approximate altitude and azimuth of the 57 numbered stars listed in the air and the nautical almanacs. It was made by Similux in 1961. Diameter: 8 1/2 " 3. United States Power Squadrons USPS LHA Aries Computer 1973 It is dated 1973 and is used to enhance arithmetic computation of star locations.
