Description
ANTIQUE UZBEK-TADJIK SILK HANDMADE EMBROIDERY - SUZANI Suzanis, the fabulous embroidered cloths of Central Asia, are among the worlds finest and the most beautiful pieces. The term suzani, which comes from the Farsi suzan for needle, is only used for large embroideries and not for embroidery on clothes or other object. These handmade Central Asian embroidery creations are the inheritors of ancient craft traditions. The production of a number of various embroideries of different forms and functions for brides wedding dowry, belongings for horsemen and their horses, and the embellishment of reception rooms was integral part to lifestyle of Central Asian people. Since their early age girls in the families of Central Asia have been taught the mastery of embroidering in order to follow the tradition to embroider their own wedding dowry. While embroidering of suzani women express their cheerful mood and creativeness using their skill following the traditions and customs of the national applied art of their nation. Most suzani motifs carried symbolic meaning relating to fertility, protection, health and household stability. For the space of the whole life the people of Central Asia have been enclosed by the decorative expressiveness and special significance of embroidered cloths at the national ceremonies and celebrations. This item is an amazing Antique Silk handmade embroidered Suzani from Leninabad, Tadjikistan. The approximate age of the item is the early 20th century. The foundation of embroidery is coarse calico cotton fabric of white color. The pattern was embroidered by hand with silk threads. The silk threads of the embroidery were dyed with natural dyes.
