ANTIQUE PURSE CROSS STITCH POSSIBLY CIVIL WAR ERA Recently found in an exquisite Pennsylvania estate was this purse or bag that is completely constructed by hand. Since there is no machine stitching I am led to believe that it is possibly Civil War era or earlier. The stitching is done on a rough linen fabric (maybe homespun). There is a name label sewn in. I can only make out the last name as Reed. It has been stored well and is in mint condition with no holes or stains. 7 1/2" wide, 9" tall and unlined. A blue silk cord acts as a handle.
