Book Inquiries Concerning the Intellectual Powers and the Investigation of Truth. By John Abercrombie, MD. New York: Harper & Brothers. 1837. Hardcover. 376 pages. 4" x 6" Condition Book is in fair condition. Ex-library copy from the Columbus Union Library. Outside covers have wear and discoloration from age and use (see photos). Significant discoloration to outside covers. Spine tape detaching. Front cover detached, but held intact with spine tape. Previous owner's name written in pencil on inside front cover. Library label on inside front cover. Front end page missing. Several inside pages have minor yellow spotting from age. Other than noted, internal pages are clean and unmarked. Description Published in 1837 (originally written in 1830), book is a popular work of early 19th century psychology. Written by John Abercrombie (1780-1844), a Scottish physician and philosopher. In 1830 he published his Inquiries Concerning the Intellectual Powers of Man and the Investigation of Truth, delving into the mental processes. Abercrombie published many books and papers and also wrote what is considered to be the first book on neuropathology Pathological and Practical Researches on Diseases of the Brain and Spinal Cord.
