It is signed by G. Janny, who was renowned for painting fairie figures in the 1800s. The frame measures 3 1/4" tall and 2 5/8" wide, and the painting itself measures about 1 1/4". The figure itself is of a Lady Spenser, an ancestor of Lady Dianna Spenser. The round ivory is backed by an animal hide (padding) on which "Lady SPENCER" is written above the numbers "9246". It also features a tapestry backing which covers the entire back of the frame. There is a tiny convex glass cover over the painting and the frame can be either placed in its standing position or hung on the wall by the loop on its back.This is truly a rare and beatuful old piece in wonderful original condition.
